There may be undercover spoilers.
What happens when Denzel Washington and Markie Mark take on the drug cartels, C.I.A, and the US Navy? You feel it, feel it! I only kid Mr. Wahlberg.
What could have been a generic script with a clever premise is elevated to a funny and touching buddy cop adventure. Washington and Wahlberg have wonderful chemistry as two undercover government agents who don’t know the other isn’t actually a criminal. The dialogue is sharp and witty, and even though you can see the twists coming the performances make you glad to be along for the ride.
The film also has an all star supporting cast featuring featuring Edward James Almos as a drug lord, Bill Paxton as a crooked C.I.A agent, and James Marsden playing a ruthless naval officer. The entire cast give heartfelt performances to what might have been stock characters.
Even though the film could have passed as a paint by the numbers action movie, the director Baltasar Kormakur has the technical skill to shape the movie into a tightly paced and plotted thrill ride.
See it in theaters if you love Denzel Washington or Mark Wahlberg but otherwise wait for dvd and have a fun date night at home with your significant other but either way the movie will at least put a smile on your face.
